Suffering Clansfolk

****

Our thoughts are with our fellow clansfolk across the world who are suffering as a result of recent extreme weather conditions.

****

We have received reports of temperatures of 42oC (108oF) in Australia with accompanying bush fires and electical storms, 21 inches (53 cm) of snow in parts of snow in parts of the USA and flooding and gale force winds in several areas in England. Please let the webmaster who if you are affected.

*****

Sadly the weather in Scotland has made the runs at the Glenshee Ski Centre unuseable. They will be hoping for a return to a more normal climatic conditions.

Glenisla Highland Games 2013 - Results

*****

A number of Clan Society members attended the 144th Glenisla Highland Gathering that took place near Forter on Friday 23rd August 2013. Mercifully the weather was better than in 2012 when those who were present were in danger of being washed away. There was just one short shower to ensure good sales of the umbrellas being sold by the organisers. It has been reported that some 600 people attended the Games.

****
The Hill Race, which is sponsored by Clan MacThomas in recognition of our connection with Glenisla, was won by Catrina Buchanan who reached the top of Mount Blair in exactly 5 minutes - beating her Father, Hugh Buchanan, into second place. This is some way short of the record of 3 minutes and 33 seconds set in 1992.

Events in 2014                                                                                !!! New !!!

*****

As part of the Homecoming Programme in 2014, a new Visitors Centre at Bannockburn will be opened. Over the weekend of 28 & 29 June 2014, the National Trust of Scotland will be organising several re-enactments of the Battle of Bannockburn, which took place 700 years earlier in 1314. As this battle occurred right at the dawn of the Clan system, it is hoped that there will be a tented Clan Village on the field as well as possibly a Clan March. Also, the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs is investigating the possibility of holding a 2nd Clan Convention for Chiefs and leaders of the Scottish Community overseas around the same time. There will be no Highland Games at Bannockburn, but it is expected that a number of Regional and/or Clan events will take place throughout Scotland either before or after the weekend programme at Bannockburn. As more information emerges about all these events, including the 2014 Clan MacThomas Gathering, details will appear on this website and in newsletters.
